A Word For Living – Diaphanous Believers

The word “diaphanous” (dye-AF-uh-nus), according to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, means primarily to be of so fine a texture as to be transparent. It comes from the Greek “phainein” which means “to show” and the preposition “dia” which means through. So one has a word meaning “to show through.”

diaphanous

It occurs to me that we, who claim the name of Christ, should be “diaphanous” as His light shines through us. Jesus called His followers “the light of the world,” but when we are honest, we acknowledge a lack of such light within us as would genuinely benefit those struggling with the pressures of everyday life. Therefore, we ought daily die to self in order that He who is the source of all light might illuminate the way for a society which seems to have lost its way.

The world needs the moral compass of Christ shining more and more brightly as the Prince of this world seems ready to envelop the nation and the earth in spiritual darkness rivaling that of the “Dark Ages.” The light of Christ shining through diaphanous Believers now, can prevent a return to those times when the true Word of God could only be whispered in secret conclaves.

American cultural and political philosophies, absent the mitigating influence of Christ’s light, must result in tyranny of the worst sort as finite man embraces an ever widening circle of aberrant lifestyles. The intolerant nature of such lifestyles inevitably brings eradication or subjugation of those who do not acquiesce.

Therefore, let Christ’s light shine brightly through diaphanous Believers while the day remains, for the night is drawing near.
