In the aftermath of the current economic meltdown, politicians are playing the “blame game”. Everyone seems more intent on deflecting responsibility for, than in understanding how to prevent such failures in the future. That attitude reflects a growing trend in American life.
One man has said that when you emphasize rights without responsibility, you encourage rebellion. However when you emphasize the responsibility that makes rights possible, you promote revival.
Romans 14:12 says, “So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.”
Scripture teaches that we are responsible for our actions to Holy God. He knows our motivation as well as our action. Should we begin to live our lives in such a way as to reflect our belief that God knows why we do what we do, perhaps we’d be considerably more careful about the choices we make.
A failure to accept responsibility makes forgiveness for wrong choices impossible. Until a man admits his failure, he cannot seek forgiveness. Scripture teaches in Proverbs 28:13, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”
Accepting responsibility enables us to confess our failure to know and follow God’s will in the matter. It also allows God to provide us with the cleansing necessary for beginning again. The “blame game”, played to deflect responsibility, is counter-productive to both good living and good government.
Remember it is not the mistake which prevents victorious living, it is the failure to accept responsibility and confess. God delights to forgive and restore. Trust Him to work His grace in your life today.
