I recently read of a lady who lost her Bible when she placed it on top of her pickup before driving home from church. As she prepared to go inside, she realized what she had done. She drove back along her route hoping to find her favorite Bible. Some distance from the church she spotted something which she thought might be it. She stopped to investigate and found that it was instead a book by Ron Dunn entitled, “Don’t Just Stand There, Pray Something.” She had never read the book nor even heard of the author, but she decided to read the it and her prayer life was transformed. She even taught the book to others.
Isn’t it great to know that God will use His Word to change lives. He really doesn’t need us. He has chosen us, chosen to use us. But He can raise up dry bones to do His bidding, so He really doesn’t need us. But isn’t it great to know that God uses the efforts of His faithful to advance His Kingdom?
Ron Dunn was simply being faithful to God to write that small book on prayer, and God used it to change the life of a woman who had never heard of him. When you and I are faithful to carry out that which God calls us to accomplish, He will take our efforts and multiply them in ways we never thought possible. That’s why it is so important that we be faithful in all the little things of life, because we never know just what God will use to touch a life..
My wife, Diane, and I have a friend named Jim Walters. He once told me that he was converted by reading from a Bible provided by The Gideons. God has used Jim to reach hundreds of folks around the world for Christ, and now has him serving in an influential pastorate at Bear Valley Church in Lakewood, Co. God used the Bible placed by an anonymous individual who was simply carrying out a simple matter of placing a Bible in a Motel Room.
Has God touched your heart about a matter, whether seemingly insignificant or monumental, which you need to be faithful in? It is a well worn, but true saying nonetheless, that God doesn’t call us to be successful, only faithful. He will us your efforts for His glory in His timing.
