Memorials to Our Freedom
Posted on August 24, 2009 | No CommentsMemorials play a significant role in our lives. Each year untold numbers of tears are shed as millions visit national memorials and recall the sacrificial lives of those memorialized. Vicksburg, Chattanooga, Gettysburg, and the mall in Washington D.C. are but a few of those sites whose purpose it is to remind us of the dangers of forgetting the past. -
Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid
Posted on August 21, 2009 | No CommentsPatrick Floyd Garrett found fame in Lincoln County, New Mexico after killing Billy The Kid and writing a book glamorizing the event. That is about all people know about Pat Garrett. Much of our lives are hidden from, or lost to public view. Proverbs 5:21 tells us that God sees and knows every act of our lives and ponders them. -
Determination
Posted on August 20, 2009 | No CommentsMidway through the second quarter, the Colts were down 21-3. But something happened on the road to defeat for the Colts. Manning and his teammates rallied. They refused to give in to defeatist despair, and, through grim determination, they fought back and with about a minute left in the game took the lead for the first time. -
Life’s Expedition
Posted on August 6, 2009 | No CommentsI’m told that the word “expedient” has as its root the word from which comes our word “expedition,” and actually means “bringing toward a destination.” How can one better utilize his time so that what he is doing is actually moving him toward his destination? -
Truths From Job’s Experience

The widely recognized richest man in the world lost everything except his faith in the God of Heaven. His was an intense pain, and he could not understand why God allowed the righteous to be so afflicted. -
Knowing God’s Will
Posted on July 28, 2009 | No CommentsShould you and I not be walking close with Christ, the leadership and direction of the Holy Ghost will often be missed; and we will find ourselves on paths of heartache, fear, anxiety, and defeat. How, then, can we know if we are listening to, and following His direction? -
Alexander Mackenzie
Posted on July 22, 2009 | No CommentsTwo hundred sixteen years ago Alexander Mackenzie wrote his name and the date on a boulder overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The important role Mackenzie played in the exploration and settlement of the West will never be fully known, and he is largely lost from the rich lore of those amazing times. Several things stand out about Mackenzie which I think could serve as an encouragement for today. -
Altruism
Posted on July 15, 2009 | No CommentsSingle word descriptions of Christianity are difficult. Few adjectives accurately describe the walk of faith exemplified by the follower of Christ. However the word “altruistic” probably comes as close as any. The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines “altruistic” as “the unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others.” -
Antidote for Loneliness
Posted on July 14, 2009 | No CommentsIsn’t it amazing that we must often come to a sense of desperation before we cry out to Him? He doesn’t want us facing life’s battles dependent upon our own inadequate and limited resources. He wants us to enjoy to the security of His limitless bounty. -
He Restores My Soul
Posted on June 9, 2009 | No CommentsNot everything that happens to us is a consequence of our deliberate wrong actions. Sometimes we just make bad decisions, or circumstances seem to conspire to bring us down. But we have a promise in 1 John 1:9....
