He Restores My Soul

Psalm 23:3 “He restores my soul…”

All of us have fears in life, David was a lot like us, David had fears, he was a king but he had some fears in his life. He had a son that tried to overthrow him and become king. David went off and lived in a cave for a while rather than fight his rebellious son. As he traveled away from Jerusalem, some of the people cursed him and made fun of him. He had a son that raped his own sister, and was later killed by another son.

Wow! David really had some problems, Do you realize that the son who would succeed him as king was the son of a woman that he’d had an affair with and had her husband killed to cover it up? David was quite a character wasn’t he? You can be sure that David had some questions, and problems and doubts.

David was a man who understood what it meant to be restored. David had an affair with Bathsheba, then had her husband, Uriah, killed. David ordered that Uriah be placed in a way where he’d be killed and he had to share in that conspiracy with somebody else. He had to tell his general, “I want you to put him up close to the front.” The general understood what David was up to because as soon as he was killed the general sent word back to David. Bathsheba then had David’s baby, but the baby died.

Nathan, the prophet, went to David and told him that he’d harmed the kingdom, and that God knew all about it.

king-davidNow I want you to understand that David knew what it meant to need restoration. David understood what it meant to feel that his own actions and decisions had brought him to the point of despair, fear, and uncertainty.

Not everything that happens to us is a consequence of our deliberate wrong actions. Sometimes we just make bad decisions, or circumstances seem to conspire to bring us down. But usually we play a greater role in our situation than we want to admit, don’t we? Time and again people tell me, “It wasn’t my fault.” The problem with that is that we never get complete healing unless we’re willing to admit our role in the matter.

David realized he had sinned, but he also knew the God of Glory could restore him. Glory!!! Glory!!! Glory!!! David didn’t have to mope through life with all that baggage pulling him down. David believed God could and would restore him, and by faith he accepted God’s forgiveness and restoration.

We have a promise in 1 John 1:9, that if we confess our sin He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin, and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Glory!!! Glory!!! Glory!!!

If you’re God’s child, claim that promise. Don’t live in defeat. Accept His restoration, today.
