Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid

garrettPatrick Floyd Garrett found fame in Lincoln County, New Mexico after killing Billy The Kid and writing a book glamorizing the event. That is about all people know about Pat Garrett. They don’t know that he was raised the son of wealthy Louisiana plantation owners, or that he lost a vicious battle for those riches after the death of his parents, or that he was eventually shot dead himself by a disgruntled business associate.

Much of our lives are hidden from, or lost to public view. Some of us have one or two moments of notoriety, but for the most part history will make little note of the everyday activities of our lives. However, Proverbs 5:21 tells us that God sees and knows every act of our lives and ponders them. Nothing is hid from Him for His eyes are in every place beholding both the evil and the good which we do according to Proverbs 15:3

Recently, while playing at our house, our Granddaughter, Rebecca, began peeking around the corner to see if we were watching her. Now we knew that she knew that she was doing something she shouldn’t; and, to a three-year-old, what she doesn’t think is observed, is safe. Sometimes you and I act like three-year-olds in regards to God. We seem to act as if God can’t see us because others can’t.

Should you and I really believe that God takes notice of our actions each day and ponders them; I think we’d act differently in most situations. Today, we can confess that we don’t live our lives in recognition of His presence and knowledge, and we can ask Him to remind us of that presence continually. Then, by faith, we can begin to live as if each moment of our lives count for all eternity. What a glorious thought that nothing we do for Him is lost.
